Children love watching seeds germinate. This is particularly true when seeds are sprouting quickly. Alfalfa is an easy-to-grow plant that can grow within a week. For a chance to observe the seeds grow you can sprinkle some alfalfa seeds over a piece of damp paper towel.
What you’ll need
A package of Alfalfa seed (about 1.5g).
A small bowl or small plate
Three paper towels
A small spray mister or water jug
How to grow
Lay 3 sheets of towel on a dish.
Take the water off the plate. The paper towel should be damp but the seeds shouldn’t be floating in water.
Sprinkle the seeds in a thick layer on the paper towel.
To stop the paper towel from drying out, place it on a sunny windowill filled with water. For wetting seeds, you can use a spray bottle or mister to do so. Also, add water into the saucer by using a cup or small jug.
Every day, be sure to check your seeds to see if they are developing.
Troubleshooting
Alfalfa is a simple to cultivate plant that will begin to germinate in 2 to 6 days. Here are a few things to look out for should your seeds not sprout in this period.
Too dry Seeds require water in order to grow. Alfalfa seeds suck up about own weight in water before getting germinated, making them appear like they are swollen. Seeds that are too dry won’t sprout. Make sure to add more water to your plate to ensure that the seeds are moist but not floating in water. You can also try soaking your seeds overnight, but make sure you drain them and rinse them with clean water prior to spreading them on the paper towel.
Too moist Seeds that are wet may cause their roots as well as their shoots to become rotten before they develop. It is also possible that mould could begin to develop on the seeds. It’s fine for the paper towel to be wet however, the seeds shouldn’t be floating on water. Every time you mist or water the seeds, rinse off any excess water.
Too cold or hot: بذور مصريه The best temperature for alfalfa to grow is 20-25 degrees Celsius. If you’re growing your seeds in winter, place them in a cool spot indoors. You might need to water your seeds more frequently when they are grown in extremely warm temperatures. They’ll dry much faster.
